Promoting rail as an integral part of Washington state’s transportation solutions. All Aboard Washington is a consumer oriented, rail advocacy organization dedicated to promoting the improvement of rail transportation services in the Pacific Northwest. We are comprised of citizens, businesses and other public interest groups from Washington State, as well as from neighboring states and provinces. Working together for improved rail transportation services in the Pacific Northwest, we work in concert with similar rail passenger groups in Oregon, California, and British Columbia. We also maintain a cooperative relationship with the National Association of Rail Passengers, based in Washington DC. We are a very active supporter of Amtrak and Amtrak Cascades train service in our state and corridor and are involved in other projects such as the new 2nd Round Trip on Amtrak Cascades to Vancouver, B.C., the new High Speed Rail Stimulus dollars, and the eastside rail corridor. Washington State receives $590 million in ARRA stimulus High Speed Rail funding!WA is reported to be receiving $590 million Federal ARRA (“Stimulus”) dollars for improvement of our Northwest Corridor between Seattle and Portland. This is a testament to the support the people of Washington and successive legislatures for passenger rail, and the preparation of the WSDOT in their efforts to qualify for the ARRA funds. Details to follow soon!

Febuary 6th Member Involvement Work PartySaturday, February 6, 2009 • 12:30 PM ~ 4:00 PM
While some organizations have work parties to build homes, fix playgrounds, or plant trees . . . we’re having one to build All Aboard Washington into an even better and stronger advocate for Passenger Rail in Washington State, and one that will serve you better as well! This will be your chance to both check out and work with groups of your fellow members on everything from Membership and Fundraising, to our website, advocacy work, and more. But don’t worry . . . you won’t have to get dirty, you won’t get rained on (at least at the meeting), and you’ll be able to enjoy a waiter-served lunch (at your own expense, of course.) For more details, or answers to your questions, just contact Executive Director Lloyd Flem either by email at washarp@q.com, or by phone at (360) 943-8333.
Come join us in Seattle on Saturday, February 6 and help build All Aboard Washington so that together, we can bring more and better passenger trains to the Northwest!
FRA AARA "Stimulus" GrantsWithin a few weeks, the Federal Rail Administration should announce which states are recipients of ARRA (“stimulus”) grants to develop and improve high(er)-speed intercity passenger train service. Basic upon the merits of Washington State’s Amtrak Cascades program and the quality and completeness of our WSDOT application we should be near the top of the recipient list. But other – mostly bigger – states, have suddenly become interested in intercity passenger rail service and are lobbying USDOT hard. All Aboard Washington’s fears that political clout and big media exposure would trump merit and that we would get ignored at grant time were increased when USDOT Secretary Ray LaHood recently mentioned “most likely recipients”, and the Pacific Northwest was absent from the list. AAWA urges all who want our Amtrak Cascades program to grow to contact state legislators, the Governor, and our Congressional delegation and POLITELY urge them to repeat to the USDOT that, based upon the criteria established for receiving ARRA rail grants, WA is at the top in terms of qualifications and preparation. If details of are grant applications are needed, our WSDOT rail office is very well-prepared.
